The Stuart Highway is the single sealed road through the centre — Alice Springs sits roughly at its midpoint. Adelaide is around 15 hours south (1,500 km) and Darwin around 15 hours north (1,500 km). QFM uses rail-intermodal from Adelaide for cost efficiency and road linehaul for speed-sensitive loads.

Rail (the Adelaide–Darwin intermodal) is typically the most economical pathway for pallet and bulk loads with flexible timing. Road is faster but priced accordingly. QFM matches the mode to the load — rail for project resupply, road for time-critical freight.
