Adelaide Freight Services
Adelaide is the freight junction of southern Australia — the only capital anchoring three interstate corridors directly. The Stuart Highway heads north through Port Augusta, Coober Pedy and Alice Springs to Darwin (still the only sealed route to the Top End), the Eyre Highway runs west to Perth, and the Western Highway heads east to Melbourne. Port Adelaide at Outer Harbor handles bulk and general wharf unloads, while the Islington intermodal yard feeds the Adelaide-Perth rail corridor.
QFM coordinates daily pickup across Wingfield, Regency Park, Kilburn, Mile End, Woodville, Dry Creek, Gillman and Edinburgh, then moves loads out on road, rail or air depending on urgency. The Ghan rail corridor is the regional rail gateway for the Northern Territory, mining-support freight to Olympic Dam and Roxby Downs runs north through Port Augusta, and the Riddoch Highway feeds south-east into Mount Gambier. Regional on-forwarding reaches Whyalla, Port Pirie, Port Lincoln, Murray Bridge, Berri, Renmark, Clare and Victor Harbor on scheduled cycles.
