Timber Freight Services

Structural timber routinely runs 6 m to 12 m — well outside standard pallet dimensions, and moisture exposure in transit affects arrival finish. QFM plans timber freight around length, moisture protection and site access, with overlength flatbed or drop-deck configurations handling most of the work and pallet networks carrying shorter bundled product and finished cartoned stock.

Moisture matters — timber wrap and protection through transit affects the arrival quality, particularly on semi and B-Double long-haul linehaul out of Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Builder's-merchant distribution, construction site delivery and timber-to-factory manufacturer supply are the three main flows. Site delivery often needs HIAB or crane offload, and staged drops align to the build's framing and finishing schedule.

Timber Freight Profile

  • Structural Beam & Engineered Timber: LVL, GluLam and CLT beams move in lengths up to 12 m+ on flatbed, semi or extendable trailers. Moisture-protective wrap, orientation control and chain restraint matched to the beam specs.
  • Framing Timber & Boards: Framing packs (90×45, 90×35, 120×45) and board packs ride flatbed with chain restraint. Packs typically 6–12 m long, secured with banding and wrap for moisture protection through multi-leg transport.
  • Builder's-Merchant Distribution: Scheduled supply runs between timber merchants, hardware yards and building supply networks. Full-trailer and part-load lanes with consistent pickup and delivery windows — regional merchants receive via capital-city linehaul plus regional agent.
  • Site Delivery & Staged Programs:Construction site delivery staged against the framing and finishing schedule. HIAB or crane offload where site access requires it; unmanned-site protocols where the build site isn't staffed.
